'Siblings Together is an Animal Assisted Therapeutic Programme, that focuses on the sibling relationship'

Research tell us that sibling relationships and its dynamics have a lifelong implications for individual development and adjustment (Irish, 1964), and have a significant influence on personality development (Ansbacher & Ansbacher, 1964).

The Siblings Together programme is about facilitating a therapeutic and calm space to explore in a creative way. It is facilitated using an integrated approach to developing strengths and building on tools to make positive changes, including problem solving, conflict resolution and communication

The Programme

Siblings Together is an Animal Assisted Therapeutic programme, facilitated at Westland Farm.

Sibling pairs or groups take part in 50 minute sessions with the animals on the farm, weekly for 6 weeks (or more).

Siblings together is suitable for children and young people of any ages, though we would recommend from 4 to adulthood.

The programme is a particularly useful process for siblings who need some assistance in their communication, are experiencing difficulties, or would benefit from healing space together. It is also very useful for attachment and self development for the individuals within the pair/group.

Sessions are usually outside, with a range of animals, and on occasion inside heated rooms/barns as needed.

“The Session has helped them get to know each other better, and understand each other better too. I definitely think they are closer now than what they were, they are certainly  spending more time together, and not arguing  as much as they used to. They seem closer.”

Mum of three (11,13 & 15), Sept-17

The programme is facilitated by Charlotte Williams

“I grew up as one in four siblings, and I have three children of my own. I have a good understanding of the significance sibling relationships can have, and I have met many of the challenges that comes with being a parent of siblings.

I have worked in various social care, therapeutic and education settings, including working with children with a variety of emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. I am extremely passionate about making a difference to children and young people’s lives, and I love what I do!”

Charlotte’s qualifications and experience can be found on the About Us page.
